About the Study

Daily Support for Parkinson’s Wellbeing

PACT App Trial

We have trialled an app that we developed which can be used to support the psychological well-being of people with Parkinson’s.

The purpose of this research was to assess if the app is relevant and acceptable to people with Parkinson’s and to test whether the app is effective for improving wellbeing.

We have done this by conducting a small trial where some people with Parkinson’s were given access to the app and others received care and support as they usually would.

We then compared the two groups on several aspects of wellbeing to see if using the app made a difference.

What Was Involved?

Eligibility

Firstly, candidates answered a few questions with someone from our research team to make sure they were eligible to take part in the PACT app trial.

Grouping

If eligible, we sent a form or questionnaire to assign people to either an intervention group (those who will receive the app) or the control group (those who will receive the app at the end of the trial).

Trialling

Those in the intervention group could use the app for about 4 weeks, after which we asked about their experience through questionnaires and an interview.

Feedback

After these four weeks for the intervention group members, all questionnaires and interviews were completed through online surveys or videocall.
